Flights have been subject to long delays at Edinburgh Airport on Sunday afternoon.
One pilot on a Jet 2 flight has informed passengers already on the plane that they had to disembark as there was not enough fuel on board.
Edinburgh Airport issued a NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) at 2.50pm advising that “Airlines are to maximise inbound tankering due to fuel supply issues.”
A passenger travelling on the 4.10pm flight to Malaga said: “The flight was about a third full when the pilot stopped anyone else from boarding and told everyone on the plane to get back off.
“The pilot said it is a problem with aviation fuel in the airport, and we have been told that the fuel may have to come from Aberdeen. The airport is full of people affected by flight delays, and there are barely enough seats to sit on.”
There is a lot of online comment including other passengers on today’s flights saying that a flight to Copenhagen has been delayed by more than two and a half hours, and that the position at Glasgow Airport is similar. One commenter says that “Jet 2 are flying a fully fuelled plane and new crew from East Midlands to Edinburgh to step in for the grounded plane”. None of these statements have been verified by the airlines.
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Airport said: “A fuel supplier is currently working to resolve an issue affecting several airline customers. The airport is assisting where possible, and passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their flight.”
