Fire services were left scrambling on Monday, the hottest day of the year so far, as they were forced to respond to two wildfires at once in different parts of the city.
Before being dispatched to a high-profile grass fire in Holyrood Park, near Arthur’s Seat, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were alerted to a fire in the Pentland Hills area, near Balerno.
They rushed to the scene at around 4:23pm, where they were reportedly joined by gamekeepers, farmers, and members of the community, who worked with firefighters to control the blaze.
Six appliances were mobilised and firefighters worked to tackle the large blaze, and had the fire under control by around 10:22pm.
According to a Facebook post by This is Eastside, a local tourism group, firefighters were assisted in their efforts by gamekeepers and farmers from the area.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 16.23pm on Monday, 25 May, to reports of a grass fire in the Pentland Hills area near Balerno.
“Operations Control mobilised six appliances to the area, where firefighters worked to extinguish a fire affecting a large area of grass measuring approximately 50 metres x 100 metres.
“There are no reported casualties, and crews left at 10.22pm after ensuring the area was safe.”
