Are you feeling the pinch lately when it comes to your finances? If so, then you might be on the lookout for some ideas on how to better yourself financially. There will always be ways you can do better when it comes to your money. With the cost of living crisis soaring, you might need all the hints, tips, and advice you can get your hands on. Check out the article below to find out more.

Look Through Your Statements

This is something you can do yourself, quite easily. Although you may have a lot of transactions to go through, looking through your bank statements can end up saving you quite a large chunk of money. You never know what is on there, and who has taken your money without permission. It is always a good idea to look for transactions that are slightly out of the ordinary. However, you also need to be checking for subscription services that you no longer use. This could be an old gym membership that you didn’t realise you still had or even a tv subscription that you don’t watch anymore.

Set Yourself A Budget

This one might seem obvious but not many people are doing it, even in this day and age. A lot of people think setting a budget is too rigid but it really does help to manage your finances. If you find yourself living paycheck to paycheck then this one is certainly for you, have you heard of the 50/30/20 rule? If the answer is no, then you are not the only one. This rule takes your after tax income and divides it where it should go most, notice it isn’t divided equally.

So, 50% of your income will go towards rent and other important utilities. You then have 30% going towards lifestyle spending like subscriptions and going out for meals. The 20% that is left goes into savings for future spending and financial security. Having money in the bank at the end of the month is your goal here.

Use The 24 Hour Shopping Rule

Another rule that you may wish to follow is the 24 hour shopping rule. If you are quite impulsive when it comes to buying things you see online then give yourself 24 hours after you have seen it. Yes, while things do go out of stock, it is unlikely to happen just 24 hours after viewing it online. Don’t part ways with your cash straight away, this is how impulse buying leads to debts. If after those 24 hours have elapsed and you still have your heart set on buying it, then go ahead and do so.

Pay Off Debts

Always, always, always try to pay off your debts. Don’t let them build up and take over otherwise you will forever be paying them off. If your debts are out of control then it may be worth speaking to a debt advice agency. They might be able to point you in the right direction, for example, making small token payments to your creditors. Rather than paying massive amounts to everyone and having no money leftover, pay as little as you can. A payment of some sort is better than no payment at all. Some creditors, if you get in touch with them, can also suspend interest from building.

Sell High Value Goods

If you have high value goods under your belt then you could always consider selling these to make some extra cash. It might be something like a collectors item for instance, list it online and see what you can get for it. If you have a personalised number plate then these can also fetch a pretty penny, search online to sell my number plate to find out more.

Use Automated Payments

Something that can be incredibly helpful when it comes to finances is automated payments. If you don’t see the money, then you don’t miss the money. Have your bills and debts set to leave your account on the same day you get paid, that way you don’t have to manually pay them and get distracted with all that money in your account. We have all been there, but this is bad and your bills should always come first.

Keep Track Of Your Credit Score

This is something everyone dreads, unless of course you have a healthy one. Credit scores can be tricky and frustrating, especially if you are trying really hard with your money. If you are trying to get credit, like a mortgage or even car finance then you will need a strong number here. Credit agencies look for those who are reliable and responsible with money before they lend large amounts to them. There are quite a few different agencies out there who can monitor your credit score, be sure to check them all out as the score can differ.

Speak To Experts

Finally, if you simply aren’t sure how to stay on top of your finances then you could speak to some experts. It might be that your debts are spiraling and you aren’t sure how to get them under control, or you just need to know where to save your money. There can be many reasons why you need to seek expert advice at any given time. The key here is, don’t let your financial problems fester, in doing so, you can make things far worse. Accountants can give you a helping hand to head in the right direction with your finances. They can trawl through your statements and provide suggestions on what to get rid of, or where to put more money. Be sure to do your research here, you want to be sure the experts really are experts.

We do hope you found this article helpful and it gave you some ideas and reassurance that you can get yourself into a better financial position. Remember, this won’t happen overnight, so don’t be too disheartened if it takes a little while. The point is, you are headed in the right direction. The only way is up!
