Police Scotland has issued a statement following yesterday’s attack in Golders Green in north London.
The force insists that while there is no intelligence to suggest any specific threat in Scotland, the public are being asked to remain alert.
A statement from Assistant Chief Constable Alan Waddell reads: “We are closely following the details of yesterday’s attack in Golders Green in north London.
“Our thoughts are with the Jewish community and everyone affected by this, as well as other recent concerning incidents.
“While this happened in London, as standard procedure it is only right that Police Scotland review our current position to ensure it is proportionate and appropriate. I would like to outline what we are doing.
“As part of the Counter Terrorism Policing network, this allows Police Scotland to collaborate with other UK police forces and the UK intelligence community to protect the public.
“This strong partnership means we can receive the latest information, consider the impact, if any, in Scotland and proactively take steps to reassure our communities.
“There is no intelligence to suggest any specific threat in Scotland, however, as always in these situations, I would ask people to remain alert but not alarmed.
“We continue to work closely with Jewish communities across Scotland, which includes proactive engagement by community engagement specialists. Following yesterday’s attack, we are actively communicating with faith leaders and community leaders.
“There will be an increased presence at synagogues as part of patrols and deployments of our existing cadre of specially trained Project Servator officers will increase, which is a national policing tactic to disrupt criminal activity and create a network of vigilance.
“Be vigilant and report anything that doesn’t feel right using the Action Counters Terrorism website, call 101 or 999 in an emergency.
“We are grateful for the ongoing support of all our communities.”
