Some 24 men and eight women took to the squash courts at Grange to compete for the £1,000 prize pot and the unique stag trophies.

Held under Professional Squash Association (PSA) rules, thatmeant the tin being lowered to 17 inches to challenge the players athleticism, skill and mental resilience beyond a normal club level 19 inch tin.

Robyn McAlpine confirmed her status as the top Scottish player on the way to the women’s title only dropping a single game in her three best-of-five matches all weekend and comfortably overcoming Poland’s Tola Otrasek in the final.

The men’s early rounds saw the seedings blown apart, culminating in fourth seed Gabriel Cox just shading sixth seed Marc Aitarriba Massague, a Spanish teenager, in the final.
