An Edinburgh church is to be decorated with more than 150 large coloured umbrellas as part of a community fundraising in event taking place in Morningside this summer.
More than £13,000 has been raised in little more than two months to cover the cost of roof repairs for Morningside Parish Church, but the repairs are expected to cost in excess of £300,000.
To cover the costs, Kerry Watt is once again organising the Morningside Umbrella Festival hoping that businesses and the community will help to cover the extra costs required for the repairs.
The festival will take place from 30 May to 14 June 2026.
The Edinburgh Telephone Choir will perform on 17 April 2026 with tickets available at the door.
Ms Watt has approached businesses to sponsor a large umbrella at the event for a minimum of £100 per umbrella.
Local celebrities, author Alexander McCall Smith, and Scottish group, The Proclaimers, have pledged their support.
The building is primarily used by local community groups including uniform associations, dancing groups, various music groups as well as mums and toddlers.
The community have been invited to visit the church and pay £10 for a miniature umbrella, which will be fixed to the perimeter railings to create a rainbow effect. There will also be a concert featuring local talent, and the event will close with a family ceilidh in the church.
