West Lothian Wolves celebrated one of the proudest days in the basketball club’s history as both their under-18 men and senior men were crowned SBC National League champions of their respective divisions.
Wolves’ senior men were up first and earned their title as league champions with a commanding 93-69 victory over North Lanarkshire Chiefs.
Prominent in the victory were top scorer Harris Christie (20 points) and Jack Cohen on offense..
Senior men’s captain Jake Leighton said; “It’s a huge achievement for everyone involved. These boys have worked hard all season and we’ve really enjoyed playing together. To win the league at home, I am just so proud of everyone.”
Celebrations continued as the under-18’s secured their title in dramatic fashion with a thrilling 107–103 victory over City of Edinburgh at Bathgate Academy. The contest was a rollercoaster from start to finish, featuring 18 lead changes and 10 ties as both teams battled for control.
Todd Kilgour was a key figure for Wolves while there were telling contributions also from Mark MacDougall in helping Wolves come from behind to win.
Under-18 captain Yanick Kilgour said: “We’ve worked really hard all year and we’ve always stuck together as a team. Even when we were behind we believed we could come back. I have played with some of these players for ten years and winning the league with this group is something we’ll remember for a long time. It is very special to me.”
Head Coach Aiden Gallagher added: “We’re a grassroots club and our focus has always been about giving people the chance to enjoy playing basketball and being part of a team,” he said. “To see both our under-18s and senior men embody that spirit and win their leagues on the same day is incredibly special and something the whole club can be proud of.”
