Police are warning the public to stay alert following reports of counterfeit £20 notes circulating in several areas of West Lothian.

The Bank of England £20 polymer note includes security features that are difficult to fake.

Officers say that before accepting a note, take a moment to check:

Transparent Window – The clear window should contain a metallic portrait and fine details.💡 Hologram – Tilt the note and the hologram should change between “Twenty” and “Pounds.

Raised Print – The words “Bank of England” should feel slightly raised. Portrait – The note features J.M.W. Turner with sharp, clear printing.

A police spokesperson said: “If you suspect a note is counterfeit: Do not return it to the person who gave it to you.

“Handle it as little as possible.

“Contact your local police or report it through your bank.”
