So, 120 minutes of Elite League ice hockey this weekend has netted a zero return for Fife Flyers in points after a 6-1 home defeat to Guildford Flames and an 8-0 capitulation at Sheffield, albeit minus two of their leading forwards who are injured.
Flyers have a goals against column over the double-header amounting to 14. Only one goal was scored by Jamie Russell’s men who prop up the ten-strong table, their play-off hopes receding fast.
Ryan Tait, a 29-year-old American right wing or centre, enjoyed a great night for Sheffield, with a goal and four assists and 30-year-old, Canadian-born forward, Stephen Harper, also had a great night, recording two goals and two assists in the demolition.
The Kingdom club were hit by an icy blast from Steelers at the Utilita Arena.
They were 2-0 down after the first 20 minutes and shipped another three goals in the middle session. There was no way back and Steelers capitalised with another three in the third.
Fife have 18 points from 36 starts, one behind Dundee Stars who have 19 points from 32 outings. A slot in the top eight which guarantees a play-off berth seems a long way away now as Glasgow Clan occupy that spot with 33 points from 35 fixtures.
Furthermore, next weekend they visit league leaders Belfast Giants on Saturday (19.00) and entertain second-placed Cardiff Devils on Sunday (17.00).
