For season 25-26, Edinburgh Curling Club has created a new league, called Sticks and Stones.
It’s a two person per team version of curling, with no sweeping, and all players using a
delivery stick rather than the traditional sliding delivery.
Games last just one hour, and are ideal for those that find sliding or sweeping difficult. It is
the ultimate inclusive version of curling.
Some 16 players took to the ice in the inaugural league leading into a recent finals day.
After all the games had been played there were clear winners in Jim Hume
and Shona Munro. Runners-up were Hugh Hunter-Gordon and Rod Else.
Our photograph shows Jim, Rod and Hugh, along with league organiser Ian Keron.
A second competition is now being played from January to March with most players returning, along with some new participants.
This format of curling is regarded as suiting all ages and abilities with other rinks in Scotland
working to establish their own competitions.
