Derek McInnes believes that Hearts have suffered “a few blows” and it is important that the Jambos try to focus on the William Hill Premiership.
Overall, he felt that his men moved the ball really well for the first 30 minutes of Saturday’s Scottish Gas, Scottish Cup, fourth round clash with Falkirk at Tynecastle, but were guilty of not taking their chances.
That ultimately cost Hearts their place in the fifth round.
McInnes told Hearts TV: “When you are at home you have to take full advantage of that so that came back to bite us.”
Falkirk manager, John McGlynn, changed the shape of the visitors late in the first half and the head coach said: “I thought they were better than us in the last five/ten minutes of the first-half.
“Second-half, they were probably the better team in the first 20 minutes to get their goal. Disappointed with the goal, such a poor goal, we have to take more responsibility to stop that and that puts us under pressure.
“From there on in, it was all hands to the pump. We get our equaliser and it goes to extra time. I felt it was untidy for both sets of teams, a lot of tired players out there. Lawrence (Shankland) coming off was a blow.”
Reflecting on the goal chalked off, McInnes felt it was “harsh on us” and he added: “The referee was happy with it and I do not think VAR should get involved. The angle I have seen it is not definitive that Tomas (Magnusson) has used his hand.”
