The McTominay goal is a work of art
A spectacular new photograph is on show at National Galleries Scotland: Portrait to celebrate Scotland’s men reaching the FIFA World Cup 2026.
In November, the crowd at Hampden Park erupted as Scott McTominay smashed in a phenomenal overhead kick in a crucial qualifier clash against Denmark. A 4-2 victory secured Scotland’s place in the FIFA World Cup 2026. Fans said the goal belonged in an art gallery, and now it is.
Ross MacDonald’s photograph is free to see at the Portrait gallery on Queen Street in Edinburgh until 5 January 2026. A moment of football magic, free for everyone to enjoy.

Time to think about First Footin’
First Footin’ is a music trail in the city on New Year’s Day which is completely free to attend. This is such a good day when everyone can walk around the city listening to some of the best music in town. Some of it will be live streamed to your living room if you really cannot make it out of the house.

Vandalism reported at St Mary’s Cathedral
There have been reports of vandalism to the new apple trees at St Mary’s Cathedral on Palmerston Place. These were planted by volunteers at one side of the church. If anyone sees anything or has seen anything then do geet in touch with the church.
Tonight at The Pitt
Tonight at The Pitt there is a Festive Multicultural Winter Gathering from 6pm until 10pm. The food market will be open alongside the Winter Clothes Swap, live music and fire dancers. This is a free event intended for everyone.
Christmas Afternoon Service at Greenbank
On Sunday there will be a service at 2pm conducted by Rev Ian Gilmour. The service will be Dementia Friendly and will include a short Communion service. There will be traditional carols and transport is available.
