There was plenty of free space for everyone in Princes Street Gardens on Tuesday night. Peat & Diesel took to the stage within just a couple of minutes of the appointed time.

The audience in front of the Ross Bandstand loved the band with a lot of singing along from the off. Since becoming a band in Stornoway in 2018, the three band members – Innes Scott, Calum ‘Boydie’ Macleod and Uilleam MacLeod – have sold out Glasgow’s Barrowland Ballroom, conquered Glastonbury, and headlined Celtic Connections with their mix of folk, punk and rock which blends tongue-in-cheek lyrics about island life.

The trio’s raucous Celtic punk has seen them pick up trophies at the Scot Trad Music Awards and garner a cult following of fans from across the UK.

The crowd was ready, having been warmed up by Ru Mac, and before it Levi Heron, who is also from Stornoway. He found overnight success his remix of Beluga Lagoon’s ‘The Glen’, rising through the UK Top 40 chart last summer. Since then, he has blended Ceilidh and Techno music into ‘Cèil-tech’, gaining fans across the globe.
