All round racketeer Ross Murdoch, from Edinburgh, has been selected to represent Great Britain in the senior Padel European Championships in Valencia, Spain, from October 19-26.
The sports club manager and coach says: “I was selected to play last year at the world championships in Alicante so put my name back in again for the Europeans.
“I was selected in the over-45 age group and will partner Mark Oppenshaw (West of Scotland) in the Open Pairs.
For Ross it is a welcome addition to an impressive sporting cv which saw him a key member of the East of Scotland men’s tennis team which climbed to the dizzy heights of Division One of the LTA summer county cup – and remained there.
Recently this member of Thistle club helped East of Scotland men preserve their place in Division One of the British Championship. The team also comprised David Holmes and Andy Burgess (Barnton Park( as well as Sammy Ralston (Edinburgh Sports Club).
Ross took up padel about seven years ago just as the sport was laying down roots and the growth has been phenomenal.
“I see no reason why padel cannot continue to grow” he said in the wake of three new courts opening in Portobello last month.
