Dr Scott Arthur, MP for Edinburgh South West, said visiting the former Balerno Police Station filled him with hope for the future.
The Westminster MP was invited following the acquisition of the single-storey building from Police Scotland by Balerno Village Trust (BVT).
Dr Arthur spent nearly an hour touring the building guided by Emma Galloway, chair of the BVT, and he said: “While the building needs a little care, its potential is undeniable.
“It is a versatile space that is ready to serve as a true community hub.”
The ex-police station is near the heart of the village and Dr Arthur added: “This will be a centre owned by the community, for the community, and I’m inspired by the incredible work that Balerno Village Trust has already invested to bring this vision to life.
“When we care for one another, we create places where everyone can belong.
“Compassion for others is what binds us together, it’s the foundation of strong, thriving communities.”
Renovation work on the building is due to start soon and the BVT aim to open next summer, the 50th anniversary of the police station being built in Balerno with small offices, community meeting spaces and an after-school childcare facilities all included in the plans.
The public will be invited to a community open day and the event will be advertised on local social media.
