Fife Flyers bosses have urged fans to stay positive despite back-to-back weekend defeats which carried a scoreline of 13 goals against and only two for.
Max Birbraer, the club’s president and general manager, made the plea ahead of the Elite League club’s home clash with Nottingham Panthers at The Fife Ice Arena tonight (WED 19.30).
The former Israel international admitted it was “a disappointing weekend” with a 7-2 home defeat to Guildford Flames in the league on Saturday and a 6-0 reverse on the road at Belfast Giants 24-hours later in the Challenge Cup.
The defeats also follow a 6-1 defeat at Manchester Storm in the Elite League on Sunday, October 5.
Birbraer confirmed Flyers are continuing to bolster the injury-hit squad and said: “The last three games have certainly not reflected the standard we are trying to re-establish here in Fife.
“In recent games we had hoped that a corner had been turned with a streak of good performances, despite the constant challenges of dealing with endless injuries to key players.
“However, it has become apparent that those challenges have already caught up with us, meaning we’re regularly playing short-handed and players having to do roles they’re not accustomed too. It’s a frustrating situation.”
The general manager added that the club are continuously monitoring the player market.
Slovenian winger Jaka Sturm has recently been recruited and Birbraer said the 6ft 4in forward, who joined the club from the Alps Hockey League, has been a big help to the depth of the squad.
The 44-year-old, Kazakhstan-born boss added: “However, we also knew that wasn’t going to be enough and more quality was required.
“If the right players become available, within the club’s budget and in the right circumstances, we will always look to provide the team with the best possible chance of competing and winning.
“We also have to be conscious that, due to restrictions to a number of changes teams allowed to make per season, we need to make sure we are bringing in the right player to address the demands within the line-up.”
Birbraer appreciates that the weekend results have been frustrating for fans and management and he urged fans to “stay positive”.
He added: “It was always going to be a transitional season, we’re learning every day, but we’re fully focused on gradually, step by step, improving and developing the club further.”
