It is ten years since the capital began celebrating light, culture, and community and this year Edinburgh Diwali marks the anniversary on 2 November.

Organisers say this will be a “spectacular celebration” with a colourful parade through the New Town, music, dance and cultural performances, and the return of public fireworks displays to Princes Street Gardens at the Ross Bandstand.

Since 2015, Edinburgh Diwali has showcased the spirit of the Indian festival of lights and Scotland’s rich multicultural tapestry by bringing together communities to celebrate diversity.

The then Lord Provost and Indian diaspora from the city established the event and it has gone on to become one of the UK’s most prominent public Diwali celebrations, attracting around 10,000 spectators to the parade and performances to Edinburgh’s city centre.

Last year there were performances from classical to contemporary involving more than 200 performers, notably The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the Edinburgh Bhangra Crew, dynamic dance troupes Bollyfeat and Dance Ihayami, and a headline performance from the sensational Kaykay & Co., the London based British Asian fusion band.

Details of the full programme will be revealed nearer the date.

This special milestone edition of Edinburgh Diwali will take place from 1pm to 7pm on 2 November.

The event is free to attend and open to all, with organisers encouraging people in Edinburgh and the surrounding area to take part in the family friendly event.
