The 27 Club refers to a group of well-known and success musicians, artists, and performers who all died at the age of 27, often under tragic circumstances.

This phenomenon was widely discussed after Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994, when people began noticing the eerie pattern of talented artists dying at this specific age.

Some of the most famous members of the 27 Club include: Jimi Hendrix (died September 1970) – drug overdose, Janis Joplin (died October 1970) – heroin overdose, Jim Morrison (died July 1971) – The Doors frontman – heart failure due to drugs and alcohol.

Other members followed including Kurt Cobain (died April 1994) – Nirvana frontman, from suicide and Amy Winehouse (died July 2011) – soul singer, alcohol poisoning.

This show is a rollicking high energy history lesson in rock and roll and includes music from all of the above – sung with passion and professionalism. Songs featured include Rehab, Valerie, Mercedes Benz, You Know I’m No Good, Roadhouse Blues, Me and Bobby McGee and All Along the Watch Tower. Winner of the Best Music Award at Adelaide Fringe, the Australian cast present a show for music fans with music interspersed with some video footage well worth seeing.

The show starts with the story of Robert Johnson – a key figure in the history of rock and roll – poisoned by the husband of one of his one of his lovers at the age of 27. One of his greatest songs Cross Road Blues – was later recorded by Cream as Crossroads.

The art created by the challenges of life, love and chemical addiction is electric, loud and timeless.

Go along and listen to some of the best songs of the rock and roll era with live music pumped out at high volume. Ted Nugent’s rule was: “If it’s too loud, you’re too old.”

The 27 Club apparently follows this guide: “If it’s not loud enough to be heard from the afterlife, turn it up – we’ve got some legendary musicians to entertain. Go get blown away!”

Saluting the fated members of the 27 Club are Australian rock icons Sarah McLeod (The Superjesus) and Kevin Mitchell (Jebediah, Bob Evans) with Adelaide favourites Carla Lippis (Mondo Psycho), and Dusty Lee Stephensen (Wanderers) delivering music’s greatest setlist.
