Edinburgh 900 draws to a close
Edinburgh Riding of the Marches will be the finale to the city’s Edinburgh 900 celebrations with a People’s Procession due to take place on Sunday 14 September. The procession will celebrate Edinburgh and all those who live here.
The organisers are now looking for groups and communities in the Edinburgh area who would liketo join the procession. The aim is to have 900 local people processing up the Royal Mile following the pageant of riders in the Riding of the Marches to the Mercat Cross. There, the Lord Provost salutes the riders and receives a ceremonial flag for safe-keeping.
If your community or group could bring colour, noise and interesting pageantry to the procession, then you are invited to register now. Each group may have up to 15 participants.
Fill in the online form of Edinburgh Riding of the Marches’ website to note your interest and they will then get in touch with you.
Anyone who wishes to take part must be available from 1.45pm to 3pm on Saturday 14 September. The group will gather in Queens Drive, Holyrood Park, and The People’s Procession will then follow the participants in the Riding of the Marches up the Royal Mile to the High Street at West Parliament Square.
Everyone can watch the procession and the Riding, joining residents and visitors from across the world who come to watch the historic re-enactment which commemorates Randolph Murray’s return with the ancient Blue Blanket and the tragic news of the defeat of the Scottish Army at the Battle of Flodden.

Vroni returns to Edinburgh
Edinburgh based pianist Vroni Holzmann has returned home after her European tour with her piano in the back of a van, playing in each location she stopped at for the entertainment of passers by. When she got home she calculated that playing in North Berwick was her 100th city of the tour which celebrated 25 years of street piano playing. She had visited cities including Stockholm, Riga, Zuerich, Paris, Berlin, Oslo, Vienna, Luxembourg and Copenhagen on the way.
Now she is back to her almost daily routine of taking the piano to Middle Meadow Walk (when the sun is shining) and playing to whoever wants to be in her audience. She will also be appearing on Portobello Prom at the Big Beach Busk on the final Saturday of August and at Vogrie Pogrie in September.
