Police in Edinburgh are urging retailers to be vigilant after multiple counterfeit £20 notes were passed by the same male suspect on separate occasions.

Officers said that these notes may look convincing at a glance, so extra caution is advised during cash transactions.

Police Scotland has published the following advice:

• Carefully check all £20 notes using UV light or a counterfeit detection pen

• Pay attention to texture, watermark, and hologram

• If you suspect a note is fake, do not accept it and report it immediately to us via 101

• If safe to do so, note the description of the individual and any relevant details (e.g., vehicle, direction of travel, time)

A Spokesperson said: “Let’s work together to prevent further incidents. Please share this with fellow business owners and frontline staff.”
