The Sarah Beaney Cup, played on a round-robin basis involving seven teams, is regarded as a premier competition in Scottish women’s rugby.

This year, with the advent of a Celtic Challenge series involving representative teams from Edinburgh and Glasgow fielding sides of optimum strength in the “Sarah Beaney” has been particularly tough.

Take, for example, the situation at Corstorphine Cougars who have had 11 players selected for the Challenge Series as well as under-18’s drafted into various programmes.

However, for their away match against Garioch the Cougars dug deep and provided debuts for four players in a 32-10 win which sets them up nicely for the visit of Stirling County to Union Park on Sunday, 17 Match (2pm).

The newcomers are pictured with regular player Lily Campbell after the win at Garioch.
