Hibs’ Head Coach Jack Ross claims that his players have been preparing as normal for the game against St Johnstone on Saturday which could go a long way to securing a top six finish despite the fact that no-one knows whether the season will continue after this weekend.

With large gatherings banned after Monday, football will either be played behind closed doors or suspended all together.

Hibs held their weekly press conference in the large indoor ‘barn’ which is normally used for training in adverse weather conditions rather than the more confined media centre at the club’s training centre.

Ross said:  “Everybody is in that state of limbo. We’ve prepared as normal and as consistent as it’s always been.

“It could be that after Saturday the dynamics change in terms of the league or the games that follow, but for the moment we’ve got to try and be professional about what we do at the weekend and try and win the game.”

Ross admitted that his view on what should happen has altered since the coronavirus spread throughout the world.

He added: “initially, I think there is that selfish thought of “ we are trying to do well in the league, where in a Scottish Cup semi-final, and we want to play the games”  but as time goes on I’ve certainly become a lot more balanced.

“This is bigger than us. I’ve got a wife and daughters and I can accept that the football side of things is secondary.

“When you don’t understand the severity of it, then you think I don’t want this to disrupt the football, however, if all those big games get thrown in the bin in order to make sure we’ll come out of this okay, then so be it.”
