Edinburgh University women celebrate their Scottish Cup success

Edinburgh University completed a Division One and Scottish Cup double, coming from 1-0 down to retain the Scottish Cup with a 4-1 win over Grove Menzieshill at Glasgow’s National Hockey Centre.

Katie Stott opened the scoring for Grove Menzieshill following a penalty corner. Captain Zara Malseed levelled after finishing off some fine build-up play from player/coach Sam Judge.

Sophie Maunder then found Louise Campbell who coolly slotted home for 2-1 and, just before the break, Hannah McKie made it 3-1.

Grove threatened at the start of the second session but Amy Brodie’s goal, following a deflection from penalty corner, sealed the win.

Edinburgh University 2s had to settle for runners-up position in the women’s Scottish Plate Final, losing 5-0 to Clydesdale Western and the 4s also went down 4-0 to holders Orkney in the women’s District Cup Final.

Eugene Connolly, Edinburgh’s director of hockey, said: “The girls managed the game well after being 1-0 down to Grove after 15 minutes. The turning point was the third goal coming only 20 seconds from half-time.”
