Hibs Development Squad picked up the SPFL Development League following a comprehensive 4-2 win over Motherwell at Oriam yesterday.

Grant Murray’s youngsters went in the half-time break with a 3-0 lead thanks to a Bowers own goal, a Josh Campbell strike and Kevin Waugh’s header.

An excellent Sean Mackie strike made it 4-0 before goals consolation goals from MacDonald and Semple halved the deficit.

The victory capped off a fantastic season for the ‘kids’ who last week won the SFA Youth Cup with a 3-1 victory over Aberdeen at Hampden Park.

Neil Lennon is optimistic about the future of the players. He said: “We’re very proud of what the young boys have done, they’ve had a tremendous season and have done themselves, the fans, the club and myself very proud.

“It’s a real feather in their cap to be the best of their year, not only winning the youth cup which is pretty special but also the Development League too so it shows that we’re doing the right things behind the scenes and moving in the direction.

“The likes of Ryan Porteous, Fraser Murray and Oli Shaw are already around the first-team and we have high hopes for a few others so it’s a very good group. They’re progressing very nicely.”
