Defending champions Edinburgh University have injury worries ahead of Saturday’s (14.30) crunch clash with title rivals Milne Craig Clydesdale Western at Peffermill.

Coach Sam Judge has Kirsten Peters, Sophie Newton and Claire Hill sidelined and fields a new-look side because some of her players from last season have moved on.

The students opened with a 5-1 home victory over Glasgow High Kelvinside and posted a 5-2 win over city rivals Watsonians in their second fixture.

Clydesdale thrashed Grange Edinburgh Ladies 7-1 at Titwood and followed up with a 5-0 victory over Kelburne.

So, something has to give on Saturday and the fixture could have a massive bearing on the rest of the season.

Judge admitted: “This will be a real test for us as Western are full of international players.

“However, we are looking forward to finding out where we are as a side as we have a very different team compared to last season.”

Elsewhere, Watsonians travel to Anniesland to play Glasgow High Kelvinside (13.30).

Grange are also at Anniesland against Hillhead Ladies (15.00) hoping to earn their first points of the season.

The only other fixture is Western Wildcats v Dundee Wanderers (14.00).

There is no men’s hockey this weekend due to the under-age championships in Glasgow.
