Steven Whittaker is delighted to be back at Hibs and is looking forward to the new season.

The Scotland international full back was part of a ‘golden generation’ of youngsters to come through the ranks under Tony Mowbray and John Collins, culminating in a CIS League Cup win.

Ten years ago he moved to Ibrox for a reported £2m fee where he enjoyed a successful five years, winning three league titles, two Scottish Cups and another three League Cups.

After Rangers went into liquidation he joined Norwich City and was part of the squad which won promotion to the Premier League.

After leaving Carrow Road, Whittaker was linked with a number of clubs including Hearts but chose to return to Easter Road.

Speaking to Sky Sports News earlier today at the club’s training centre, Whittaker said: “It’s fantastic to be back. I’m delighted to be here again. It’s a great facility we have to train here and I am really looking forward to this season.

“We want to aim high. We feel that we have a good squad. We have added well.

“We are a club that’s been successful over the past two years and we want to keep adding to that.

“The manager is demanding and hopefully we can get the performances that gets the points to get us as high up the league as possible.

“I just want to perform well and do what’s needed on match days to get these victories.”
