The council passed its draft budget earlier today which includes proposals to increase the cost of car parking in Edinburgh.

Charlotte Square may have limited car parking spaces, but it will become more expensive to park there from 1 April 2017.

Car parking charges will go up by 5.56% from £3.60 per hour to £3.80 in the most expensive areas such as George Street, St Andrew Square, Charlotte Square, Queen Street, Market Street and Cockburn Street.

All other bands increase by 40p.

Transport Convener Councillor Hinds was most vocal today during the budget debate about the £700,000 which car parking charges raise for the city.
