Police Scotland have confirmed that a  man has been arrested and charged following an assault in the Royal Mile which took place around 6pm on Wednesday.

A 36-year-old man suffered a serious head injury during  the incident outside the Radisson Blu hotel and he remains at the Western General Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.

A police spokeswoman said on Thursday: “Police in Edinburgh can confirm that a 38-year-old man has been arrested and charged following an assault in the High Street.

“The incident happened around 5.55pm on Wednesday when a 36-year-old man sustained a serious head injury.”
