After the signing of striker Robbie Muirhead on Monday, Hearts have confirmed the signing of another striker – Conor Sammon – and left back Faycal Rherras.

Republic of Ireland striker Sammon made his name as a prolific scorer at Kilmarnock five years ago which earned him a big money move to Wigan Athletic who were in the FA Premiership at that time. He then moved to Derby County who freed him at the end of season 2015/16.

Sammon was clearly thrilled to be joining Hearts.  “Playing at Tynecastle was always one of the best away days, the atmosphere is top class,” said the Irishman, who had also attracted interest from Aberdeen. “I can only imagine what it’s like as a home player when the team is doing the business on the park. It helped make the decision to come here an easy one.”

Rherras was a regular at Belgian side Sint-Truiden having made nearly 50 appearances in the last couple of seasons. The Moroccan Under 23 cap can also play at right back and seems certain to become a key member of Robbie Neilson’s squad who reported for pre-season training today ahead of their opening Europa League tie in just over a fortnight.

Both players have signed three year contracts at Tynecastle.
