EDINBURGH RIDING OF THE MARCHES TO COMMEMORATE FIRST WORLD WAR

Edinburgh Riding of the Marches and Armed Forces charity Poppyscotland are joining forces to launch the annual historic procession and ceremony, which will take place on Sunday 7th September on the Royal Mile.

Edinburgh Captain Stuart Mitchell was on horseback, carrying the city banner, while Kay Robertson,and Edinburgh rider carried the Poppyscotland flag. Two horses, Duke and Osiris, from Tower Farm Riding Stables, were present at the launch and on parade on Sunday, where they will join a procession of 270 horses and riders.

The 2014 Edinburgh Riding of the Marches is commemorating the start of the First World War, which saw a massive contribution from horses and horsemen alike, and Poppyscotland has been chosen as the nominated charity for 2014 to support its current work with members of the Armed Forces community.

The event will take place on Sunday 7th September with the mounted cavalcade of 270 horses riding the Royal Mile, leaving Holyrood Park at 3.30pm. Ceremony at the Mercat Cross, opposite the City Chambers, from 4pm.
