Laughing Horse @ Bar 50. 50 Blackfriars Street (within Smart City Hostels) 1 – 25th August (not 13th) 4:45pm (50 mins)

Directed by Ana Esmith.

Livewire is a bizarre, moving, stupid, clown comedy show that derives from Jody Kamali’s experiences of being an only child.

Chasing a bag in the air; singing the Sex Pistols in pitch perfect operatic tenor; creating an imaginary world with teddy bears and having a meltdown on stage as a human ten pound note are some of the many bizarre, yet beautiful moments of Jody Kamali’s physical comedy show. Being half Iranian, half Bristolian, all his experiences of cultural clashes and the lonely world of being an only child have been deftly pieced together with the direction of Ana Esmith (Ecole Philppe Gaulier) to create a show full of stupidity that derives from truth and stupidity.

Livewire is Jody’s 7th Edinburgh Festival Fringe appearance, previously performing character comedy in various guises. The discovery of clowning through courses with Philip Burgers aka Dr Brown, Ana Esmith and Spymonkey eight months ago, enabled Kamali to go from an everyday, run of the mill, character comedian to an exciting performer making a lot of noise on the alternative comedy and cabaret circuit.

Kamali is a member of Clown Camp in London, a group that meets weekly to devise comedy from one’s own stupidity (rather than creating gag based material). The group works with some of the leading clown teachers, many of whom have trained with master clown teacher Philippe Gaulier.  Jody is also part of clown troupe ‘Le Flop’   – which was an underground hit at the Brighton Fringe 2013. The Argus described the show as ‘gloriously silly’.
