Madeleine_Mitchell_violin_portrait_1_-_CopyThe Orchestra of the Canongait under conductor Robert Dick will perform in Greyfriars Kirk in Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe with distinguished violin soloist Madeleine Mitchell in Bruch’s Violin Concerto. They have secured the rights to perform the UK premiere of Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony with the 2012 performing version of the Finale by Samale/Mazzucca/Phillips/Cohrs as recorded by Sir Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic. This is quite a coup for the orchestra.

Madeleine Mitchell, recorded and performed James MacMillan’s motet with solo violin in Greyfriars recently and she also performedin the NE Scotland Sound festival. She has just returned from representing the UK as Artist-in-Residence in the Canberra International Music Festival for their centenary celebrations.

Mitchell taught Robert Dick violin at the Royal College of Music and he has since gone on to enjoy a varied and versatile career as a violinist, violist, keyboardist, teacher and primarily as a conductor. He has played and conducted in some of the most prestigious venues in Europe, incorporating success in a number of international conducting competitions.

Robert-Dick-PortraitRobert Dick founded the Orchestra of the Canongait in 2002 and it has since become one of the most accomplished orchestras of its kind in Scotland, receiving rave reviews for its Edinburgh Fringe performances of the great symphonic repertoire, notably the symphonies of Bruckner and Mahler. Through its efforts, it has also raised a great deal of money
For national charities including Epilepsy Scotland and Amnesty International.
