Ecas, an Edinburgh-based charity working to improve the lives of people with physical disabilities has received a vital funding boost thanks to players of a charity lottery. Ecas was awarded £2,200 by People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity, funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Ecas will use the money to buy additional equipment to help with computer based courses in digital photography, computer art and similar activities for people with disabilities. With specially adapted equipment including computers and graphics pads, access to a variety of software and experienced tutors these courses are a great way to learn more about how to make the best of your photographs, or how to make artistic masterpieces on a computer. Support with transport costs is available for clients who meet set criteria.

David Griffiths, chief executive of Ecas, said “We are really grateful to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for this funding which has enabled us to get some excellent new equipment to run courses using graphics pads and computers for disabled people. We all have lots of digital photographs and this first course will teach people how to organise and use them using a variety of different software. We will also be running other courses using this equipment.”

The first course starts on Monday 14th January and will run from 1.30 to 4pm for 10 weeks. There are still a few places left, more details are available on http://www.ecas-edinburgh.org or from 0131 475 2344.

People’s Postcode Trust offers project funding from £500 to £10,000 for community groups and charities. The application process reopens this Monday 7th January. Visit http://www.postcodetrust.org.uk for all the details and application form.
