Mr AK 47 as a stand-up, appeared like a badly prepared teacher in front of a class who lost his way on a number of occasions.

As half Egyptian – Iraqi with a strong American accent he was frequently very self indulged, opinionated and abrasive. He did well to pick up on the comments from the audience and was at least able get them to sing along well to a song. His subject matter ranged from themes of the Fringe to cultural differences in Egypt.

The audience was attentive and did laugh at some of his quick witted remarks. When asked what had changed in Egypt since the fall of Mubarak, he gave good explanations and most had learned something by the end of the show.Ā  Mr AK should be applauded for giving it a go at the Fringe but better scripting would really help.

You can see Mr AK 47 at the Southsider Pub (venue 148) until 20th August at 8.15pm
