Lothian and Borders Police are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was robbed at knifepoint in Edinburgh in the early hours of this morning (August 3).

A man approached the 23-year-old from behind as she walked into Stead’s Place about 1.30am. He produced a knife and robbed her of her bag, before running off.

The suspect is described as being white, and was wearing dark-coloured clothing with a balaclava or hooded top.

A police spokesperson said: ‘Although she was not injured, the young woman has been left badly shaken as a result of her ordeal.

‘The man may have been loitering on Leith Walk near to Stead’s Place immediately before the incident and we are appealing for anyone who may have seen what happened, or with any information that may help identify the suspect.

‘At that time in the morning, there would not have been many other pedestrians in the area, but we would be keen to talk to anyone who may have been around. In addition, we would like to talk to any motorists, or taxi drivers, who may have seen the suspect either before or after the incident.’
