Following the success of the annual cross country race for 8-13 years old held around Easter, Belhaven Hill Primary School has added an event for 4-8 year-olds.

The project proved an instant success with 140 runners pitching up to tackle the 1k course representing schools from as far afield as Northumberland.

Nearer home the following schools joined the hosts in participating: West Barns PS, East Linton PS, Pencaitland PS, Athelstaneford PS and Cockburnspath PS.

Neil Tomlin, Belhaven headmaster, said: “Cross-country is a key feature of sport at our school as it promotes not only fitness but also the important aspects pf determination and resilience.

“Belhaven pupils from age 4 through to 13 run every week.”

First in the P1 races were Jude B from East Linton and Florence W from Longridge (Northumberland) who edged the team award ahead of Pencaitland.

The P2 race saw a double win for Longridge but West Barns, with Ellie H outstanding, ran away with the team trophy.

Among the P3’s Ollie from West Barns won the boys race while Belhaven dominated the P4 races Jasper H holding off team-mate Oscar D in a home 1-2.
