This spectacular realisation of Giuseppe Verdi’s ‘A Masked Ball’ by the Zurich Opera was an absolute delight to see and hear.
The singing by all was wonderful but especially that of Stephen Costello as Riccardo, Dalibor Jenis as Renato, and Elena Stikhina as Amelia brought this production to a particular high.
But also that of Rebeca Olvera as Oscar brought a thrill to this audience member.
Of course also the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House under the demanding baton of Gianandrea Noseda enabled the whole thing. And, of course, the support of the Zurich Opera Chorus brought the depth it deserved.
The set is very clever using the stage in a way which made it seem bigger and grander than its physical dimensions. Wonderful.
