Sparking a Scottish solo revolution

Today is Singles Day which means it is all about celebrating the fun and freedom of being single.

Two women Jennie Poynton and Sarah Spanswick have founded Pip Social which is a space to celebrate being solo, but also encouraging sociable connections and empowerment without the need to “find a match”.

Jennie said: “People are experiencing dating app fatigue.

“They are sick of swiping left or right, hoping for a connection that often doesn’t feel genuine. Pip Social is all about ditching the awkwardness and creating a community of like-minded singles who can come together for good times, real conversations and genuine connections.”

Sarah said: “Men often are often reluctant to go to events alone, they are not as brave as women when it comes to turning up by themselves.

“We’re here to break that taboo. Pip Social is about normalising being single, and offering people the chance to get together with other single people who aren’t just interested in dating, but in making real friendships and having a laugh.”

Ceilidhs

Pip Social is a new movement with ceilidhs at The Rowantree, Cowgate on 28 November and at Box Hub, Glasgow on 5 December. This is a Highland Fling with a twist – the perfect way to break the ice.

Jennie said: “We want to show single people that Christmas isn’t just about being paired up under mistletoe. It’s about celebrating who you are, where you’re at, and the people around you. Being single doesn’t define you – it empowers you to define your own life. And when you get a bunch of strong, single people in a room together, magic happens. That’s what Pip Social is all about.”

Sarah said: “This isn’t a stuffy event. If you’ve never done a ceilidh before, no problem! We’ll teach you the moves – just bring your energy, your Christmas spirit, and your best dancing shoes. We wanted to create a space where being single is a cause for celebration, not shame.

“It’s time to show the world that single doesn’t mean lonely. It means independent, empowered, and fabulous!”

The duo are from corporate backgrounds in consulting and procurement and have founded Pip Social to reshape the way we all think about being single.
