Police carry out day of action to tackle off-road motorbikes following increase in complaints

Police officers yesterday Thursday 5 September 2024 carried out a day of action to tackle off-road motorbikes.

It follows an increase in reports of Sur-Ron bikes being driven dangerously and in an antisocial manner, as well as involvement in break-ins across the city.

Plain clothed officers were supported by colleagues from the road policing and dog units to target known hotspot areas resulting in a number of off-road bikes being spotted and enquiries are ongoing to identify riders through CCTV.

Two males stopped in the Broomhouse and Niddrie areas were charged after a quantity of drugs was recovered.

During a vehicle stop, a driver was arrested in connection with road traffic offences relating to no insurance or licence.

Further fixed penalty notices were issued for mobile phone use and insurance offences.

A man was arrested in connection with breach of bail and is due to appear in court today.

A drone was seized and the owner charged in connection with culpable and reckless conduct.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Our community officers continue to carry out pedal cycle patrols on pathways known for antisocial behaviour and through good engagement with the public, we’re working to make our communities safer.”
