David Gray “angry disappointed and frustrated” at League Cup defeat

Hibs Head Coach David Gray was angry disappointed and frustrated after his side exited the Premier Sports Cup in the round of 16.

Around 1,000 Hibs fans travelled to Parkhead more in hope than expectation and sure enough Gray’s men were two down within a quarter of an hour.

A tremendous goal from Myko Kuharevich against the run of play made it 2-1 at the break but a defensive mix up in the second-half gifted the Hoops a winning goal.

After the final whistle Gray told Hibs TV: “I’m angry, disappointed, frustrated.

“When you look at how the game panned out, it very quickly became a repeat from the first half against Celtic last week, despite everything we spoke about and worked on in the week.

“That was probably due to the manner of the first goal we conceded, so individual errors, people not getting across and not doing their jobs properly.

“From that moment on we had to dig-in to stay in the game. Celtic dominated and we became passive again.

“We had to tweak the system to stay in the game, and we knew at times we’d have to ride our luck and suffer, but you need to at least show fight and show desire to get up to the ball.

“We got ourselves back in the game from a good header from Myko (Kuharevich) against the run of play.

“That moment gave us confidence and belief going into half-time and we were better for that because we played forward more and pressed more.

“We were fortunate to be 2-1 down at half-time, but the message was the make sure we could build on how we ended the first half. We started the second half ok, and the third goal killed everything.

“Another individual error and you can’t do that against this level of opposition.

“I feel like I’m repeating myself because it’s the same message after last week. We know we need to be better, we will be better, but there’s no excuses from my end.”
