Gordon signs contract extension at Hearts

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon has signed a one-year contract extension with Hearts until the summer of 2025.

Gordon, a graduate of Hearts Football Academy, has battled back from a double leg break in December 2022 and recently returned to top team action when the Tynecastle team edged Spartans in the Scottish Gas, Scottish Cup.

The 41-year-old player, who has also appeared for Celtic and Sunderland, is the club captain and Steven Naismith, Hearts’ head coach, is delighted that Gordon, the sixth most-capped player of all-time for Scotland, has committed to another year.

Naismith told Hearts’ official website: “Craig is a fantastic goalkeeper and to see him come back against Spartans was a special moment.

“He’s also a leader. He’s an influential figure in the dressing-room, someone who has played at the top level both domestically and internationally.

“Younger players look up to him. He’s the type of player this club needs in order to keep progressing because he knows exactly what it takes to be successful.”

Meanwhile, Inverness-born Don Cowie, a former Hearts midfielder, has been appointed as interim manager of Ross County after the resignation of Derek Adams. Cowie made ten appearances for Scotland.
