Jacob’s title double to start 2024

Dalkeith tennis exile Jacob Fearnley has won both singles and doubles titles at the M25 Esch-sur-Alzette tournament in Luxembourg in carrying over fine form which saw him cap 2023 with his first professional titles.

A student at Texas Christian University, 22-year-old Jacob entered the Luxembourg tournament as a qualifier and ended with a career high ATP ranking of 519 – an improvement of 111 places – in singles.

In the first round proper he had to overcome the loss of the first set to Alexey Vatutin but four straight sets wins then followed as Jacob closed out the title.

In doubles Jacob, who has a singles win over former Australian Open semi-finalist Kyle Edmund on his cv,  successfully partnered American Alex Rybakov, a former student at Texas Christian University, to the title.

This week Jacob is one of several Scots at an M25 tournament in Loughborough.

Jacob Fearnley has started 2024 with a tennis title double and a leap up the world rankings.
