Scottish Book Trust – books for food banks
Tis the season of giving and the Scottish Book Trust is another worthwhile cause donating books to food banks, hospitals and community groups.
The charity says: “Too many children in Scotland do not have books at home. Books bring magic, comfort and joy. Donate now to give the magic of books. Scottish Book Trust delivers programmes and outreach work designed to support a love of reading in children, families and adults through all life stages. Your donations will help deliver more life-changing work. This includes creating specialised kits to support families to share stories, songs and rhymes with their children, sending tactile books to children with additional support needs, and gifting books to families who need them most through food banks and community hubs.”
More than one million people live in poverty according to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and a quarter of those are children. In this the Scottish Book Trust’s 25th anniversary year they are tackling inequality through access to books and reading.

- £20 could make it possible for a child in a disadvantaged community to access the life-changing magic of live author events
- £50 could provide a set of books to a care home, community setting, hospital or prison to ensure everyone can enjoy reading for Book Week Scotland
- £120 could create a specialised kit for families who need the most support to share stories, songs and rhymes with their children.
- £300 could give a family member the tools they need to share the joy of books with a loved one living with dementia, helping them connect and relax.
- £500 could make an author event possible for remote or disadvantaged communities across Scotland.
