Cold snap hits fishing in Central Scotland
The cold snap closed several fisheries in Central Scotland this week including Drumtassie Coarse near Blackridge, Allandale Tarn at West Calder, Magiscroft near Cumbernauld and Bowden Springs, near Linlithgow, as temperatures plunged well below zero and ponds became iced over.
Owners suggest anglers continue to monitor social media and call before travelling.
Earlier this week, Lake of Menteith reported good catches with rod average of 3.5.the loch at Millhall was “fishing its socks off” earlier this week and the weather relented and, although cold, the rain thankfully stayed away.
Anglers using various tactics were successful at Millheall near Polmont using floating lines on the bung with egg, FAB and apps bloodworms to intermediate and slow sink lines teamed with snake, rabbits, blobs and yet more apps bloodworms.
I Wallace was among the anglers who were rewarded for their efforts and he had 14 fish, P Reid had 17 fish, P Mailer had 27 fish and N Burns had 23 fish. D Meier had eight fish on snakes and P Bigham had nine, mainly on diawl bach.
Meanwhile, the committee of not-for-profit organisation, Malleny Angling, who look after fishing at Harlaw Reservoir in the Pentlands, have met the bailiffs to thank them for their efforts last season and to discuss plans for next season.
The get together was held in Tanners lounge bar and restaurant in Juniper Green. Season ticket prices will be available soon once the price for fish for next season has been confirmed by suppliers.
The Railway Inn Angling Club recently held their annual meeting, but not in the Railway Inn at Juniper Green which is now closed and on the market for sale. The meeting was held in the nearby Kinleith Mill gastro pub at 604 Lanark Road, Juniper Green.
