Christmas picture competition winner announced

Fringe Festival CEO, Shona McCarthy has selected a winner for the Christmas picture competition run by Edinburgh Central MSP, Angus Robertson.

Primary 1 to 5 pupils from Royal Mile Primary School were invited to create a festive image on the theme of friendship.

The winning picture was created by Mohammed Eltayip in Primary 4 and featured smiling children enjoying the outdoors with a snow man, and more happy people inside a nearby house.

Ms McCarthy said: “It was such a privilege to see all the joyful and creative Christmas cards. They were all so good and brought a smile and a bit of Christmas magic to my day. I’ve chosen this one because it really speaks to the them of friendship, and I love the christmassy colours and inclusion of all the people inside and out.”

Angus Robertson MSP said: “A huge thank you to everyone at Royal Mile Primary for sending in these wonderful pictures for my Christmas picture competition. Friendship is so important in these times and could tell from all the pictures that the pupils are great friends to one another, and that’s brilliant. As the Member of The Scottish Parliament for Edinburgh Central, I’m thrilled that my constituency has such talented young people.

“Thanks to Shona McCarthy for judging this competition – pupils should be very proud that such a key figure in Scottish culture has recognised the quality of their fantastic pictures. Many congratulations to Mohammed on his fantastic artwork.

“I wish all pupils and staff at Royal Mile Primary the very best for the season and the New Year, when I hope to visit their school in person.”

The winning Christmas image will be publicised on social media and be sent to more than 500 people in Edinburgh as well as all MSPs.
