Barnton Park make padel history

Barnton Park men wrote themselves into the history books when they won the inaugural Padel Tennis Scottish Cup with a victory over Capital rivals, Thistle, at the new David Lloyd Club, Shawfair, near Edinburgh.

The new champions were made to work hard for the title though as their final finished 2-2 after all four rubbers meaning they required a 10 point shoot-out to prevail.
The winning Barnton Park men’s side comprised Andrew Burgess, Dexter Conrad, David Holmes and Will Lyburn.and class ultimately told.as they hadn’t lost a rubber before the showpiece with clean sweeps over hosts David Lloyd Shawfair, Edinburgh Park and West of Scotland Padel on the way through.

The first winners of the men’s Scottish Padel Cup are Barnton Park, from Edinburgh.
In an all-Edinburgh final to the men’s Scottish Padel Cup Thistle finished runners-up.
Edinburgh Sports Club were just edged out by West of Scotland in the women’s Scottish Padel Cup final.

Their confidence told in the shoot-out as they led throughout before sealing the title with a volley.

The women’s final was equally close with a shoot-out required before Edinburgh Sports Club were edged out by West of Scotland.
