Hockey – three Edinburgh sides in Scottish Cup Finals

It’s an all-Edinburgh final, and a repeat of 12 months ago, as Watsonians square-up to The University of Edinburgh in the Women’s Scottish Cup Final.
Watsonians booked their place with a solid 4-0 victory over Hillhead at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre and Sarah Jamieson, Katie McCallum, Susan Hamilton and Emily Dark (pictured by Nigel Duncan in purple socks) counted.
And the students thrashed Western Wildcats 5-0 at the same venue. Edinburgh University broke the deadlock when Jess Ross opened the scoring, Junjika Nyirenda made it 2-0.
The same player added a third from a rebound, Zara Kennedy, who deflected a Katie Robertson drive into the circle, made it 4-0 and Amy Brodie got her name on the scoresheet when she finished off a penalty corner routine to send the ball into the net for 5-0.
Erskine Stewart’s Melville, a real surprise packet, carry the hopse of the Capital when they meet Western Wildcats in the final of the men’s Scottish Cup, but they are rank outsiders.
Fraser Sturrock, Jack Collister, David Ellis and Rich Wright made it 4-0 before Murray Griffiths pulled one back for Dundee side Grove Menzieshill, but they failed to add to their tally.
Grange, the men’s Premiership leaders, were beaten 5-0 by Western Wildcats, Andrew McConnell claimed a treble, Fraser Moran and Adam McKenzie scored and Hamish Galt struck the post in the later stages as Western booked their place in the final.
