A Short Trip Through Djibril Cissé’s Football Journey
Djibril Cissé signed for Auxerre when he was a youngster, and he made his first senior appearance for the club in 1999 in a match against Paris Saint-Germain. His best season for the club came in the 2001/02 campaign, where he went on to score 22 goals in the 29 matches that he played in. This meant that he finished as the league’s top scorer, which was an impressive achievement considering how little experience he had playing at such a level.
Guy Roux was the manager of Auxerre at the time, and he just so happened to be good friends of Gerard Houllier, who was the manager of Liverpool. He was capped for France 41 times, and in this time, he notched up 9 goals.
