On Saturday 28 November 2020, John Kitchen MBE and Annemarie Klein will give a virtual concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The event will be live streamed from St Cecilia’s Hall, Edinburgh at 4.30pm.

In August 2010, while still a student at Edinburgh University, Klein was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

She explained:“I finished the treatment at the end of November and returned to Edinburgh in January 2011. But I had to take a year out in order to recover. During this time, John (Kitchen) sent me lecture notes to cheer me up!”

Remembering this time, Kitchen observed:”Annemarie always had a passionate interest in 17th and 18th century music.  She was a lively and thoughtful student, who contributed tremendously to tutorial groups, who wrote very fine and original essays, and was widely read.

“I accompanied her splendid finals recital in St Cecilia’s Hall and very much look forward to playing with her there again in this live-streamed concert.”

This month Annemarie celebrates 10 years of being cancer free and she is looking forward to marking the milestone. Originally from Luxembourg, she is a Baroque recorder player, and is in demand both as a teacher and as a performer.

Kitchen is Edinburgh University and City Organist, and Director of Music at Old Saint Paul’s Church. He also frequently demonstrates and performs on the early keyboard instruments at St Cecilia’s Hall.

The concert will feature a programme of late-Baroque works by J.S. Bach, G.P. Telemann and J. Pachelbel, among others. Kitchen will be showcasing the 1755 Baillon harpsichord.

Macmillan Cancer Support provides specialist physical, financial and emotional support to people affected by cancer.
