Hibs’ medical team have been in touch with the SFA regarding youngster Josh Doig who has been  ordered undertake precautionary self-isolation for 14-days.

Doig was a member of the Scotland Under-19s squad that started the game against England at St George’s Park on Thursday however the match against England was abandoned in line with established COVID-19 protocol when the news came in that Head Coach Billy Stark had tested positive for coronavirus.

The rest of the under-19s squad and backroom team had all delivered negative COVID-19 tests last Sunday to enable them to play in Thursday’s match.

Stark had to travel home in isolation and will self-isolate for 10 days.

The playing group and the rest of the backroom team will self-isolate for 14 days, whilst the Scottish Government undertakes a formal risk assessment to assess who Stark was in close contact with during the camp.

Scotland Under-19s game against England which was due to have taken place today has now been postponed.

Hibs Head Coach Jack Ross said: “Our medical team has been in dialogue with the SFA and we are awaiting further guidance about whether he (Josh Doig) is allowed to come out of isolation and the other members of that squad as well.

“There have been examples throughout the league and with other national teams, so, it is slightly surprising for us at the moment that everybody in that [U-19] group has been placed in isolation, but we will await further news and hopefully it will be positive news.

“It is something we have never, ever given thought to and I would never stop any of my players joining up with their country but, now, there is obviously concern there. Paul [McGinn] will now join up with Scotland and what if there is another instance and we lose more players?

“They don’t teach this in coaching manuals! It might need a new module, but I’m not teaching it!”
